When Inclusion Becomes a Lab Partner
I used to think “diversity in STEM” was a phrase reserved for posters on hallway bulletin boards—bold fonts, smiling faces, and a message that felt important but distant. Then I learned about Farmingdale State College’s 2026 STEM Diversity Summit, scheduled for Friday, March 6, 2026, from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM in the Campus Center Ballroom. Suddenly the concept wasn’t a slogan. It was a room I could picture: chairs scooted close, hands raised mid-question, name tags angled like tiny doors opening.
More surprisingly, it felt like the kind of room I’ve been trying to build inside myself—one where people don’t have to shrink to fit.
